7 Steps To Change Your Negative Mindset

The steps listed below are in order of what to look at first. They start by looking at the root cause which allows you to realise why you think the way you do.
Then, you can look at ways to improve and change your negative mindset over time.

1 What is the cause of your negative mindset?

This is a great place to start, because there will be a reason for the way that you think.
So, I will list a few areas that you can think about to see if you can find the root cause.
Look at your life and see if your negative mindset has stemmed from any of these areas:
  • Past emotional trauma.
  • Past or current illness.
  • Living an unhealthy lifestyle.
  • Chemical imbalance or nutritional deficiency.
  • Parents/guardians/family/friends think and speak in a negative way.
It is quite common for most people to realise that they negative thinking has stemmed from one of the above areas.
For me it was all 5 areas. Although that was a bit of a shock to learn, it was also calming to know there was a reason behind my negativity.

2 Let it go.

After realizing why you have a negative mindset, you must now let it go.
Let go of the anger, resentment and hate you have for the reason.
And forgive yourself and others for your past.
This is a hugely important step to move on and create a positive mindset.
Think of it as forgiveness and freedom for yourself. By forgiving, you set yourself free.
By holding onto hate and anger, the only person you hurt is yourself.

#3 Look after yourself.

I can almost guarantee that you don’t look after yourself as much as you should.
Am I right?
When you think negative, the last thing you will be thinking about is providing yourself loving self-care and talk.
To think positively, you must provide yourself with loving self-care and talk regularly.
And when I say regularly, I mean daily.
This is not an option but a necessity.
Self-care includes your diet, lifestyle, sleep and hydrations.

4 Remove toxic relationships.

We’ve all got that friends/s or family member that dumps all of their negative/toxic life and thoughts onto you.
THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR YOUR MINDSET! PERIOD.
You must let go of toxic relationships to enable yourself to create a positive mindset and life.
Think about those that make you feel drained, low and even not good enough. They need to go!!

#5 Stay active.

When you feel low and negative, you sometimes feel paralyzed.
You want to go out, keep active and enjoy.
But, you thoughts keep you stuck at home, curled up in a ball.
You feel bad for not doing anything, but you can’t bring yourself to move.
Can you relate?
Well, at these times you must force yourself to keep busy and active.
This will change your identity of yourself and stop you from feeling sorry for yourself.

6 Be grateful.

Do you give gratitude for everything you have in your life?
I can guess that you don’t.
If you did give gratitude your negative mindset would diminish over time.
Gratitude enables you to see that there is much more to life.

7 Observe your thoughts and self-talk.

To change your mindset you must be aware of your current thoughts and words.
When you start to observe how you think and speak you will be surprised by how often you see the negative and put yourself and others down.
Start to be aware of how you think and talk and learn to stop those thoughts and turn them into the positive.
